It follows summer and precedes winter, but between these two key seasons in Samoëns, autumn means no rest. Here is an overview of the activities on offer: sports, culture, family treasure hunts – take your pick!

Contemporary sculptures in the Vallée du Giffre

Just a stone’s throw from Samoëns, visit La Chartreuse de Mélan. Located in Taninges, this former monastery was built 700 years ago and belonged to the Carthusian order. Stroll through the monastery grounds and admire contemporary sculptures that blend into the landscape of the Giffre valley, the architecture of the Chartreuse and the special history of the site. A real bridge between the environment, the site’s past and the present.

Sports activities

Are you a keen sportsman? Would you like to experience some thrills and discover a magnificent natural heritage? The Samoëns tourist office has a whole range of activities on offer. Paragliding in the mountains guarantees both thrills and unforgettable visual memories. First flights and courses can be booked through the various service providers, as can rafting. Fancy a hike and admiring the exceptional panorama of the Alps? We have a wide range of itineraries to suit all levels, from beginners’ hikes to challenges for the more experienced among you. With the Via Ferrata, a combination of hiking and climbing, you can explore some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps. Once again, a wide range of activities are available through the service providers: à la carte multi-activities, courses for children, itineraries and equipment hire.

Activities for all the family

Autumn rhymes with Halloween. And what better way to delight the little ones (and their parents) than with a themed treasure hunt? The booklet is available from the tourist advisors at the Tourist Office. For something to eat between two rounds of the trail, head to the Ferme des Cimes for a snack of delicious local produce.

Fishing and pottery

From the heights of the village, on the Chemin des Chapelles – Mathonex, try your hand at pottery. The Puce de Cécile workshop is open every day from 2pm to 7pm, except Sundays. Another great idea to round off this overview is fishing at Lac aux Dames. In an idyllic setting, you and your children can indulge in this passionate sport (cards available from our holiday advisors).

Bonus

It’s the perfect time of year to visit the Botanical Gardens. Created in 1906 by Marie-Louise Cognacq-Jay, founder of La Samaritaine, this site, listed as a Remarkable Garden, is home to no fewer than 4,800 mountain plants, divided into 2,500 species. What better way to end the day than to watch the sun set over the peaks of Samoëns? One of the best spots to admire one is La Bourgeoise, at the top of the Col de Joux Plane.
